Assessment-Day Information 2014-15

Dear Parent(s),

We are so excited about beginning the new school year with your child(ren)!  As we start our planning, there is some important information we would like to share with you regarding the  check-in/assessment day scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2014.

The State of Colorado requires that all students be assessed in reading within the first three weeks of the school year.  In the past, we've had to use valuable instructional time during the first weeks of school to accomplish this.  In an effort to create a positive entry into a new classroom, we would like to assess each child before the first day of school.  This way, our focus during the first weeks of school can be on building a collaborative and positive learning community...not testing kids.

Therefore, all 1-5 grade teachers will be conducting reading tests on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.  Prior to this day, please be sure to complete parent forms on-line beginning July 1 (  This will involve confirming and/or updating your child's information.  Please plan on coming to Rolling Hills at the times indicated below on August 13, according to the first letter of your last name:

A-H……… 8:00-9:30 am

T-Z……… 9:30-11:00 am

Staff Lunch (11:00-12:00)

I-O….…. 12:00-1:30 pm

P-S……. 1:30-3:00 pm

It is essential that you come during your specified time to help reduce long waits and lines.  Please plan on being at school for approximately 90 minutes.  The assessment can take anywhere from 15-60 minutes, depending on the student and grade.  The remainder of the time will be used for pictures (students and volunteers) and to take care of PTO and other school business such as medical information with the nurse, registration for B & A and lunch account.  Once we confirm you have completed the on-line parent forms, you will also receive your child's classroom teacher assignment.

If your child attends Before and After care, the students will be brought to testing by their staff during your child's scheduled time.

On this day, please enter through the gym doors where we will have staff available to help direct you through this process.  This is our only designated assessment/check-in day, so if you are unable to attend, your child will be assessed during the first few days of school.

Thank you so much for your support!  Your help will enable us to focus on building positive classroom environments during the first weeks of school which will foster a successful school year!
